Conversion Process

Most conversions are completed within seconds. However, larger files may take longer to process. The conversion speed depends on several factors:

  • The size of your file
  • The complexity of the conversion (e.g., changing codecs)
  • Your internet connection speed (for uploading and downloading)
  • Our current server load

A typical MP3 to WAV conversion for a 5-minute song might take around 10-15 seconds, while a 30-minute video conversion could take 1-2 minutes.

If a conversion fails, you'll see an error message explaining the issue. Common reasons for conversion failures include:

  • Corrupted source file
  • Incompatible format combinations
  • File contains DRM protection
  • Temporary server issues

In most cases, you can simply try again. If the problem persists, try a different format or check if your file is corrupted. If you continue to experience issues, please contact our support team through the Contact page.

Currently, we offer a simplified conversion process with default settings optimized for quality and compatibility. We're working on adding advanced settings in a future update, which will allow you to customize parameters such as:

  • Bitrate for audio conversions
  • Resolution for video conversions
  • Audio channels (mono/stereo)
  • Sample rate adjustments

For now, our default settings are designed to provide high-quality output for most common use cases.

When you upload a file to Share-Tube, the following process takes place:

  1. Your file is securely uploaded to our servers
  2. Our system analyzes the file to determine its format and properties
  3. We use high-quality, open-source conversion libraries (primarily FFmpeg) to transform your file into the selected format
  4. The converted file is made available for download
  5. Both the original and converted files are automatically deleted after one hour

Throughout this process, your file is handled securely and privately. We don't access or analyze the content of your files beyond what's necessary for conversion.

If your download gets interrupted, you can simply click the download button again to restart the download. Your converted file will remain available for one hour after conversion, allowing you to download it multiple times if needed.

For larger files, we recommend using a browser or download manager that supports resumable downloads, as this can help if you experience connection issues during the download process.

File Formats

Input formats: MP3, MP4, WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC, MKV, AVI, MOV

Output formats: MP3, WAV, MP4, M4A, FLAC

We regularly update our service to support more formats. If you need a specific format that isn't currently supported, please let us know through our Contact page.

The best format depends on your specific needs:

  • For highest audio quality: FLAC or WAV (lossless formats that preserve all audio data)
  • For good quality with smaller file size: MP3 or M4A (compressed formats that balance quality and size)
  • For video with good compression: MP4 (excellent compatibility and reasonable file size)

If audio quality is your top priority and file size isn't a concern, choose WAV or FLAC. If you need to save space or share files online, MP3 or M4A are better choices.

For a more detailed comparison, check our Conversion Guide.

Both MP3 and M4A are compressed audio formats, but they have some key differences:

  • MP3 is older and more widely compatible across all devices and platforms.
  • M4A uses newer compression technology (AAC) that provides better sound quality at the same bitrate as MP3.

In general, M4A files will sound slightly better than MP3 files of the same size, but MP3 has broader compatibility with older devices and software. If you're using modern devices, M4A is often the better choice for audio quality.

Both FLAC and WAV are lossless audio formats that preserve the full quality of the audio, but they have important differences:

  • FLAC uses compression to reduce file size (typically 50-60% smaller than WAV) while maintaining all audio data.
  • WAV is uncompressed, resulting in larger files but with slightly better compatibility with older software.

FLAC is generally the better choice for archiving your music collection because it saves space while maintaining perfect quality. WAV might be preferred in professional audio production environments where compatibility with various audio software is essential.

Yes! You can easily extract audio from video files using Share-Tube. Simply upload your video file (MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV) and select an audio format (MP3, WAV, M4A, or FLAC) as the output format.

This is particularly useful for:

  • Extracting music from music videos
  • Creating audio podcasts from video interviews
  • Saving audio from lectures or presentations

The conversion process will extract the audio track from the video and convert it to your chosen audio format.

Troubleshooting

There are several common reasons why file uploads might fail:

  • File size too large: We currently have a 500MB file size limit. Files larger than this cannot be processed.
  • Unstable internet connection: A weak or intermittent connection can interrupt the upload process.
  • Unsupported file format: Make sure your file is in one of our supported input formats.
  • Corrupted file: If your file is damaged or incomplete, it may fail to upload correctly.
  • Browser issues: Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser.

If you continue to experience issues, try reducing the file size, checking your connection, or using a different file.

If you're experiencing quality issues with your converted file, consider these possible causes and solutions:

  • Converting to a lossy format: When converting from one lossy format to another (e.g., MP3 to M4A), some quality loss is inevitable. Try using lossless formats like WAV or FLAC for better quality.
  • Low-quality source file: The output quality can never exceed the quality of the original file. Ensure your source file is high quality.
  • Format-specific issues: Some formats are better suited for certain types of content. For music, FLAC or high-bitrate MP3 is recommended. For voice recordings, M4A or MP3 is usually sufficient.

For the best quality:

  • Choose lossless formats (WAV, FLAC) when quality is a priority
  • Convert directly from the highest quality source available
  • Avoid multiple conversions between formats

If you can't play your converted file, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check your media player: Make sure your device or player supports the file format. Not all players support all formats (e.g., some players don't support FLAC).
  2. Try a different player: Download and try a versatile media player like VLC, which supports almost all audio and video formats.
  3. Verify the file isn't corrupted: Check if the file was fully downloaded. Incomplete downloads can result in unplayable files.
  4. Check file extension: Ensure the file has the correct extension (.mp3, .wav, etc.) matching its actual format.
  5. Convert to a more compatible format: If you're still having issues, try converting to a more widely supported format like MP3 or MP4.

If the problem persists, the original file might have been corrupted or incompatible with our conversion process.

If you're experiencing issues with the Share-Tube website, try these steps:

  1. Refresh the page: Sometimes a simple refresh can resolve temporary glitches.
  2. Clear your browser cache: Accumulated cache data can sometimes cause website performance issues.
  3. Try a different browser: If you're using an older or less common browser, try a mainstream one like Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
  4. Check your internet connection: A slow or unstable connection can affect website functionality.
  5. Disable browser extensions: Some extensions can interfere with website operations.
  6. Try incognito/private mode: This can help determine if browser settings or extensions are causing the issue.

If none of these solutions work, please contact us with details about the issue you're experiencing, including your browser name and version, operating system, and a description of the problem.
